Not quite done with the girls/math study..
Thanks to Russo for sending over this link to an interesting analysis of the numbers behind the study published in Science about girls matching the math performance of boys. Marginal Revolution writer Alex Tabarrok takes a different route to arrive at the same conclusion Heather MacDonald from the Manhattan Institute found: There’s nothing in the report to disprove Larry Summers’ famous utterance about women and science. In fact, Summers appears to be pretty much right.
Whether Summers was right or wrong has little to do with women choosing careers in math and science. But that debate does say something about those who emerge at the very top of the field, so it’s important to get the data right.
