Go to New Mexico, gamble…and learn about the boy troubles
Here’s an interesting upcoming conference on boys, focusing on the problems in New Mexico and held at a casino. I visited that state as part of my research for Why Boys Fail — schools there could use some guidance. There are some good ideas in the program that other states might want to copy.

The mere existence of this conference shows that there is some awareness of the issue. I am beginning to think that it is almost inevitable that this entire issue will have to bubble up to the surface of the national debate. Indeed, there was that article questioning the focus of the first lady on mentors for girls when they are doing so much better in school.
